Greenway Modern School organized a Capacity Building Programme on “Gender Sensitivity” by CBSE in the school auditorium on 13 February 2024. The objective of this one-day session was to get an in-depth understanding of what gender sensitization is and the need for building awareness around gender equality.
The session was hosted by Dr. Nivedita and Ms. Rajni, the exponents in the field of Academy and Training sessions. The session started by introducing the speaker Dr. Nivedita Naithani, Innovation Head of Venkateshwar International School and the recipient of the Best Mentor Award from CBSE nationally. She is a certified Global and National AIEF Resource person.
Ms. Rajni Ashat worked as a scientist at Sri Ram Institute. She served DAV School as the Principal for twenty-seven years. She is awarded by the Human Rights Commission for her service in the field of education and she is also awarded Shiksha Ratna by the Governor of Haryana.
Dr. Nivedita started her presentation by listing the session’s objectives. She briefly explained the purpose and significance of gender sensitivity before leading an activity to help all the teachers become aware of the misconceptions and prejudice about gender. She advanced the conversation by describing the difference between gender and sex and the significance of gender equality in all spheres of human existence. A short video was shown on mental health which left everyone with a cue of questions and their hunt for the most appropriate solutions. She continued by outlining how people are required to act, speak, dress, groom, and even conduct themselves according to the gender allocated to them by society.
She emphasized how stereotyped ideas still prevail in society and what are the benefits of gender equality. She gave a reality check through a hand-out on how people behave in specific ways that are considered apparent truths and thus are practiced unconsciously. She, through various examples, discussed the connection between masculinity and gender sensitivity and the need for the eradication of gender-based violence. Ms. Rajni continued the lecture by involving all the attendees in various activities to strengthen their comprehension of the various terms of gender sensitivity. The session was concluded by Ms. Jaishree, the Activity Charge by giving a vote of thanks to the speakers. The workshop served as an eye-opening session for all and helped them understand and respect all genders irrespective of their sexual orientation. It insisted on the relevance of the ‘Law of Acceptance’.
