20th April to 25th April to provide an insight into
things that exist beyond the curriculum and to develop knowledge, life skills
as well as to remove monotony in class studies
The group activity provided the
students a brief glance of different sports of different countries i.e. India
(chess), South Korea (Taekwondo), Bangladesh (Kabaddi), Iceland (Handball),
Nepal (Volley ball) while enabling them to research and write a picture essay
based on their research. Through this project students learnt more about
popular sports of their and other country .This was implemented with the
following objective in mind:
1.
Gaining knowledge about sports person in different sports
in India
and other countries.
2.
Studying the life and history of the chosen sports
person.
3.
Writing a picture essay on the sport person.
4.
Answering a small questionnaire based on the essay
to ensure understanding of the global knowledge of sports.
Each section was assigned a country as per section as per the given
list of countries. The class was divided into a group of 10-12 students each
group representative was assigned. Each group was then chosen their sports
person of the particular game. Students collected the data from various source
like magazine, Google etc. They also took help from their parents and teachers.
Then they prepared intriguing folders highlighting the players achievements
their inclination for sports .The students just not only pasted stimulating
pictures of the players but also delved into various stages of life through
which they have passed along with their unending struggle which further grilled
their game. The inspiration of the players were also mentioned in the essay
which was a balm for them in hard period of the life which succour them to
reach the zenith of success.
A general quiz was prepared on the basis of picture essay as the
evaluation procedure to ensure the students thorough understanding of the
history and life of the player.
Though the students came across a lot of hurdles during the course of
this activity like collection of data regarding players and their life as they
had very less information about the players of other countries. To understand
the complexities of life of these players was another task for them. But the
students brilliantly completed this activity with the support of their teachers
and parents.
The
group activity was an enlightening and inspirational activity for the student,
parents as well as the teachers because they came to know about the hardship
undergone by the successful people in their lives. This activity also helped in
developing communication and collaborative skills involved in team work. Also
develop sense of friendliness and team sprit. Learn to cope up with men.
The distribution of responsibility
provided for encouragement of leadership qualities and team work amongst the
students. Not typically looked upon as possible career choice in a country like
India,
the students were inspired from the life of these sports person and the
consideration of sports careers also struck certain young minds. It was
successfully concluded as all students took part in it with great enthusiasm.
