15^th May 2015 dawned as a special day for the students of Greenway Modern School, Dilshad Garden.  Their hearts fluttered with joy and excitement about abound as they had the opportunity to meet the great visionary, educationist, scientist and honourable Ex-President of India DR. A.P.J KALAM at his residence.

An enthusiastic contingent of 45 excited guided by Principal Mr. Mohit Sachdeva and teachers got this wonderful opportunity to have an enriching and enlightening interaction with the missile man of India and be a part of his incessant mission to mobilize the future pioneers, entrepreneurs, leaders and destiny deciders of India.

The session commenced with a bouquet presentation by the Principal Mr. Mohit Sachdeva to Dr. Kalam. Dr. Kalam initiated the conversation by asking questions about the school and then he engaged students in a sparkling conversation asking about their dreams, aspirations and objectives in life.  From there the interaction flew unrestricted wherein he compared the young learners with trees which have the potential to contribute a lot to the environment.  He elucidated about the life of great people like Thomas A Edison, Marie Curie, Dr. C.V. Raman and Alexander Grahambell who thought noble and achieved their dreams through sheer grit, courage and invincible determination for the benefit of mankind.

Dr. Kalam emphasized on four steps to achieve greatness as he inspired students to think big, to acquire knowledge, to work hard and be perseverant.  He related some heart-warming anecdote about his teachers, about the young learners that he had interacted with while the spell bounded Greenwanians absorbed these precious nuggets of inspiration with rapt attention, which had the power to touch their hearts and souls. A round of questions and queries from the students to Dr. Kalam added to the charm of the evening where he answered questions pertaining to his life, philosophy, his message to youth, his vision, his childhood and his amazing journey as from Rameshwaram to Presidency of India.  He appreciated their queries and answered them candidly.  The session culminated with an oath that Dr. Kalam bestowed upon the students to follow their dreams turning them into thoughts and actions.  A token of reverence was presented to him in the form of a card and then Dr. Kalam sent a message to the Greenwanians.

A workshop on disaster management was conducted at Greenway Modern School, Dilshad Garden, Delhi to create awareness among the students about techniques and ways to respond swiftly during various calamities. A mock drill on earthquake disaster was demonstrated with the participation of the students. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Majumdar a resource person from Hindustan Times, who instructed and enlightened the students about various types of disasters and the safety measures to be taken in case of any calamities.  The session was informative and the students cleared the queries at the end of the session.

It is well said that Dancing is not more translation or abstraction from life, it is life itself.  Dance is the virtual representation of tradition, culture and music of the people. 

Zeal and enthusiasm were holding their pinnacles when Greenwanians celebrated the 33^rd International Dance Day.  The students of Primary department presented themselves with their creative means in terms of costumes, coordination, choreography, expressions and intricate movements.  The competition promoted existing and young talent and brought to the forefront the true form of art.

Harmony house emerged as the winner and secured 1^st Position.  They presented classical dance and their discerning steps along with their remarkable coordination rendered the audience spell bound.  The second position w as bagged by Peace house.  Their aesthetic and energetic performance totally justified their centric theme of “Proud to be an Indian”. Last but not the least, Love and Purity house attained their position.  Their talent and passion was highly appreciated by everyone.

The students from middle-wing came up with the spectacular and resplendent performances.  The podium was enlightened with varied and fascinating dance forms like Freestyle, Latin Jazz, and Robotics and classical.  The rhythm and the music of dance filled the ambience with great joy.  The props used by the students highlighted their performance in vibrant colours and it was a real delight to watch.  The efforts of children and their splendid performance were appreciated by everybody.

The students from senior wing enthralled the audience not only by the synchronizing moves but also by a special skit presenting the grave issue of exploitation of the girl’s potentials in different stages of her life, by and in our Society.  This skit made the event more auspicious.

Different forms of dance like Salsa, Contemporary, Classical, Tap dance and many more were exquisitely staged after every significant part of the skit. 

This all different amalgam of a joyous and serious issue certainly accomplished in its work to encourage dance in pupil and to make them realize the importance of girl’s potential and how our history following society is suppressing it.

The programme culminated while leaving the amazement stricken audience in half – encouragement and rest, realization.
